Prescott confirms Hooray and Motrice Royal Ascot participation
The shrewder than shrewd Sir Mark
Prescott has confirmed that both
his smart sprinter Hooray and
exciting young stayer Motrice are
intended runners at next week's
glittering Royal Ascot five-day
racing spectacular, writes Elliot
Slater.
Last term Hooray proved herself
just about the best juvenile filly
in the country, winning the Group 2
Lowther Stakes at York in August
before following up in the Group 3
Sirenia Stakes at Kempton the
following month. The daughter of
Invincible Spirit then put up her
best performance of the season when
slamming Rimth by four-and-a-half
lengths to win the Group 1 Cheveley
Park Stakes at Newmarket in October
in superb fashion. Anyone thinking
about placing a
Royal Ascot bet on her would
have been very impressed.
Only eighth to Blue Bunting on her
seasonal reappearance in the 1000
Guineas, Hooray dropped back a
furlong at Epsom last week and duly
bounced back to form with a
comfortable success in the Listed
Surrey Stakes. Prescott confirmed
the Cheveley Park-owned filly is
set to take her chance in the Group
1 Golden Jubilee Stakes on the
final day of the royal meeting, a
race for which she is currently on
general offer at 16/1 in the
Royal Ascot betting.
At the other end of the distance
scale Prescott is intending to
throw last season's highly
progressive stayer Motrice in at
the deep end and let her take hers
chance against the likes of Rite Of
Passage and Fame And Glory in the
coveted Ascot Gold Cup next
Thursday. Last term the
four-year-old Motivator filly
rattled up a hat trick of handicap
successes (having started last term
on a mark of 59) before stepping up
in class to finished third in the
Group 2 Doncaster Cup and runner-up
in the Group 3 Jockey Club Cup,
ending the campaign with a rating
of 108!
Motrice, who makes her seasonal bow
at the royal fixture, is currently
quoted at up to 33/1 to win the
feature event for mares.
